Training, 11/5/10
Wednesday, May 12, 2010

Darrell:

After a long break from floorball due to the mid-year exams, everybody were eager to put in their best, hoping to regain their fine form after several weeks without training.

'C' division started their court training at 3.00 pm. Sadly, majority of the players only arrived 5 minutes before training started. Setting up of the boards definitely ate into some of their precious training time but they were quick to get their task done and started their warm-ups soon after.

The Sec 1s were all very eager to learn and improve as shown from their seriousness during training. The 'B' div Sec 3 players started their gym warm-up at 3.30 pm, while the newly stepped up 'B' div Sec 2s players ran their 2.4 km.

Most of the Sec 3s arrived on time and it was made clear that if anybody were to be late w/o valid reason, with a 10 minutes grace, the whole squad will run 10 rounds. Discipline is important within a team so such punishment is needed.

Training was unfortunately interrupted by lightning storm. I was pretty disheartened when I noticed some of the Sec 2s jumping in joy when their 2.4 km run was cancelled due to the weather. Players of such attitude is not acceptable.

Sec 3s were all giving their best during gym and I was very pleased with such results. At 4.45 pm, we made our way up the indoor sports hall for the team meeting.

Team Meeting :

Content of meeting is as follows (Correct me if I'm wrong) :

1) 'C' Div training every tuesday and thursday from 3.00 pm to 5.00 pm. Fitness programme to be done after training once Term 2 ends.

Saturday court training at 8 am.

2) 'B' Div training every tuesday and thursday from 5.00 pm to 7.00 pm. Sec 2s are to run 2.4 km before court, within time span of 15 minutes. Sec 3s to do gym before training.

Saturday training in the morning at 8 am, Sec 2s to run their 2.4 km and Sec 3s to do gym. Court training at 10.30 am.

3) 'B' Div squad to be cut to 20 players by 3rd week of June holidays and be finalised to 16 players by EOY, somewhere during late September.

4) 'B' Div aim for next season is Top 4. Players who do not have the same aim are not needed and advised to change their CCA.

5) Players to be selected by the 2 As, attitude and ability. Attitudes includes the player's determination to seek improvement as well as his passion for floorball. Regular attendance will be shown if the players are having the right attitude. Ability includes players' technical skills and discipline on court, such as sticking to game plan and their determination to win back the ball on court.

6) No food and drinks allowed in the hall. Players are to set up and keep the board together, nobody is to change or leave before boards are fully kept.

7) Seniors should not be bullying their juniors for no reasons.

That pretty much sums up the major content of the team meeting.

Court training started shortly after. This was the very 1st time the Sec 2s and Sec 3s are training together, along with some alumni players coming back to train for their DSAs. Little communication were made and players are still sticking with players of the same batch, with the Sec 2s on the left and Sec 3s on the right. Seniors were all eager to show off their skills while the Sec 2s were cluelessly staring in awe as the seniors did their hard and skillful shots that landed in the goalpost.

After drills were completed, the team was broke into different lines with seniors and juniors being mixed together, allowing more chances for everybody to get to know each other. The game went smoothly and players were going all out on court. The intensity was great and everybody played well. I spotted a few outstanding Sec 2 players. Probably when it comes to cutting down of the team, the seniors might not be sparred as well, with some of the Sec 2s being ready to step as well.

The training on the overall was great. I give it a 9 / 10 =) Keep up the good job.
